Goal - To Run 6 Miles By Easter

Week 1 & 2

So, I promised the whole school that I would run 6 miles by Easter! Sometimes I wonder how (and why) these words come out of my mouth…!

During half term I managed to run three times. I ran just under 2 and a half miles the first two times I ran, followed by 15 minutes sprinting between lamp posts on the third day. The sprinting was very hard as it was up a little hill, but as my friend kindly reminded me “It’s not exactly the Peppa Pig hill is it?”(!!) The run was even more frustrating as I had treated myself to a posh running watch which picks up satellites and tells me where I’ve been, and how far and how fast I ran. I jogged to the park feeling very proud of my fabulous new watch, did my best sprinting… and forgot to turn my watch on. Grr….

Since then Mr Stockdale has been working abroad and therefore my training has been on the Wii Fit, but it’s not really the same… He is back on Thursday so I will be getting my trainers on and getting out for a run (this time I will turn my watch on!). I am going to aim for 3 and a half miles next week. Watch this space…

Week 3

This week I have finally managed to run 3 and a half miles, in 43 minutes! I have been running on the treadmill so I haven’t had to remember to turn my posh running watch on!!

I have realised that running while I listen to music is a great way of keeping going. I put my ipod on shuffle, and every time I feel like I want to stop I tell myself ‘1 more song, 1 more song…’ it seems to work! (Remember never to listen to an ipod when you are running near the road). Running before school is great too. The endorphins that are released in your brain when you exercise make you feel great and really ready for the day ahead!

I hope to run 4 miles by the end of this week – watch this space…

Week 4 and 5

Last week I ran a few times and successfully managed to run 4 miles by the end of the week. It felt great, and I managed it in 49 minutes. I tried to enter a race this week, the Thorney 10k on 28th March, but it was full so I am going to run independently, by Easter.

This week I have not had as much time to run as I have had parents’ evenings, and only managed a quick 30 minute run in the middle of the week. This weekend, however I was determined to run further than 4 miles and to aim for 5.

So on Sunday I aimed to run for an hour in the hope that that would be 5 miles. It was a hard run and I wanted to give up lots of times during the hour!

In the end I ran for 56 and a half minutes and ran 4.65 miles. Not as good as I hoped, but Easter is still 2 weeks away!

I am hoping to run at least 5 miles by the end of this week!

Weeks 5 and 6

I only managed to run twice during week 5 week, once for just under 4 miles, and then 4 and a half miles on the Sunday. That only left me a week until Easter and I still had not quite run 5 miles yet!

Well, it was the Easter holidays by then so I decided to put everything into it that week. I started off on the Tuesday with the intention of running 5 miles, but for some reason I just found it really hard. I had to keep stopping, and eventually gave up after 37 minutes, having only run just over 3 miles. I really thought I would never reach my goal.

I felt really fed up, but I was determined not to give up, so a couple of days later I tried again. I finally made just over 5 miles! It took me an hour, but it was worth it and I was really motivated to run the 6 miles.

On Easter Sunday I went to the gym while my children were eating Easter Eggs, and was determined to reach my goal. Running felt great, and after 1 hour and 13 minutes I ran 6.09 miles. I really felt that I could have run further, I felt brilliant!

Now I am aiming for 7 miles, and then, who knows…!!!
