Scarborough Resdiential 2016 Update -

Wednesday 8th June 2016

Scarborough exploration day! Today was the day for enjoying South Bay Beach, an open-top bus ride, Peasholm Park and the main Scarborough Swimming Pool. It was also the day when we would let the children loose on the arcade games (for a short while!)

The light cloud-cover was a relief after the heat of yesterday. Beach sculptures were made, kites were flown, children paddled in the very cold North Sea and the lifeguards talked to us about keeping safe at the seaside and the important job the RNLI do.  Peasholm Park was next - children raced against their friends in the pedal -powered boats and fed the ducks and geese with their packed lunch crumbs.  At the swimming pool, the children enjoyed playing games, diving and racing against each other for the afternoon.

After an evening meal of pasta and meat balls, the children walked back down the big hill back to the sea front for chips and a trip to the arcades - they've had an another amazing day!

Tuesday 7th June 2016

The children and staff woke up to another day of glorious sunshine this morning. With our summer clothes on, sun cream applied and packed lunches chosen, we left for Flamingo Land. After a short journey, we could see rollercoasters in the distance and the excitement levels rose enormously! The children were immediately drawn to 'Velocity' - the motorbike rollercoaster and screams of delight were soon heard as groups whizzed past at high speed. The rest of the morning was spent exploring the park, going on more rollercoasters and rides, exploring the water park and water rides and watching the African 'Bongo Warriers' display team.  By lunchtime, the children had already had a ball and they still had over half of the park to explore in the afternoon! The sealion show was brilliant - the children loved the fact that the oldest, largest and slightly silly sealion on display was called 'Clive'! The children made an obvious link to one of the teachers on the trip! We then watched the bird show and some of the children had their photo taken with the parrots before the rest of the zoo was explored. To finish a fabulous day, the children were allowed to go back to their favourite rides for one more go! The coach arrived at 5.00pm to take the kids back for a scrumptious tea of chicken pie (or vegetarian/dietry alternatives) before writing postcards and aiming for a slightly earlier night! Another great day had by all!

Monday 6th June 2016

After arriving at Dalby Forest in the glorious sunshine, Year 6 took it in turns to put on harnesses and to 'Go Ape' in the trees! The children loved the challenge of climbing between the trees and obstacles and the thrill of the zip wire seemed the highlight as they came back to the ground! The brilliant park area kept the children amused for ages until it was time to make our way to the Green Gables Hotel in Scarborough.

When we arrived, the children went off to explore and find their rooms along the endless corridors! The rooms are lovely - lots of the children also have sofa sitting areas too!

In the evening, we enjoyed a fabulous meal before swimming in the hotel pool, making use of the games room and exploring the local park in the evening sunshine. The children were shattered and all went to bed really easily and enjoyed a great nights sleep.

Looking forward to Flamingo Land today!

We are looking forward to World Book Day on Thursday! We will be pairing up with Year 3 for some reading activities on the day. 1st March, 2016

We had a fantastic trip out to the Gurdwara  last week. It was really interesting to see the things we had learnt about and find out even more. We impressed them with our knowledge and questions! A very informative trip - we were made very welcome.

This week is Science Week when we will be finding out about the importance of healthy bodies and the role our key vital organs play. It is also the final week of our Egyptian topic which has been amazing!

Hope you all have a safe and happy half term!

Year 6 Team

We had a fantastic time at The Guardian Newspaper last week and made some brilliant front pages. It was really interesting to see which stories different children decided to focus on. The children were praised for their hard work and excellent behaviour and it was a pleasure to take them on the train! We will be applying our reporting skills to English this week when we write reports on the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb by Howard Carter.

Next week we will be going to visit the Gurdwara to find out about the Sikh religion.

26th January 2016

Well done to ALL Year 6 pupils who took part in the Inter-School Cross Country at KSCS on Friday. The children's superb efforts brought us home in an impressive 2nd place! Well done! First home for Werrington in the Girls' Race was Morgan and Adam K was the first Werrington boy to cross the finish line. What a super effort!

Thank you for your generous orders for Christmas decorations. The children have collectively chosen Macmillan as our charity this year. We are going to be busy - lots of pre-paid orders to fulfill! By now Year 6 will have their ideas for their own games for the Christmas Fair.

Thank you in advance for all your help with this! We look forward to seeing them next week.

23rd November 2015

Year 6 took part in a very moving Remembrance service last week. A selection of our poems were shared and we all recited "In Flanders Fields" which was very well received. Members of the public who attended said how well our children spoke the lines and how powerful it was. Well done Year 6! We were shown war graves and found out a bit of the history involved before enjoying a cake and a drink in church which was very nice indeed.

Thank you so much for all the fabulous cakes you generously donated to raise funds for Children in Need! We raised a lot of money by selling them. They were delicious!

This week we will need to put our running shoes on! We will all be taking part in a Cross Country event at Ken Stimpson on Friday. Hopefully the weather will be kind!

16th November 2015

This week we will be thinking about Remembrance. We have a talk on Monday afternoon by the Werrington History Society and then on Wednesday we will go to the war memorial in the churchyard for a service. We will recite In Flanders Fields which we have learnt for homework.

9th November, 2015

Football and Netball at the Voyager School

We enjoyed our matches and came 2nd and 4th in football and 2nd and 3rd in Netball.

Well played everyone!!

This week is our Art Week! We are studying a picture called "Sanctuary". We have made exotic clay fish and are really looking forward to using glazes for the first time to really create a spectacular finish to them. We are writing stories based on the picture and have created our own sanctuary collages and explained what sanctuary means to us. Some of us are taking part in netball and football events this week so we are looking forward to that! Can't believe Half Term is here already - thank you for all your support with everything this half term!

October 2015

Photo of our Hockey event last week which we played very well in and enjoyed a lot!

20th October 2015

Year 6 had a fantastic time at Kings Dyke last week looking for fossils (and we don't mean us teachers!) We were lucky to find them in such plentiful supply. Some of us were also lucky enough to spot a kingfisher but we all had the chance to hold a snake if we wanted! It was a super trip and recommend a visit if you get the chance - free access once you download and complete a permit from the website.

This week we are writing balanced arguments about Titanic and working on our mental calculations in maths. Some of us are taking part in a hockey event too.
