Crowning of our May Queen
Categories: Announcements School News
We hope very much to be able to proceed with this afternoon's festival however we are mindful of the weather forecast for showers.
We are busy preparing for this afternoon and we have every intention of going ahead as planned. If the weather prevents us form continuing outside a decision will be made to move into the Key Stage 2 Hall. This regrettably means that we have very limited seating/standing and we will physically only be able to accommodate those in receipt of a written invitation.
If we have to resort to Plan B - inside, it will be disappointing for all of us so let's hope we don't need to use this option. In the last twelve years or so the school has needed to move inside twice so the odds at least are in our favour.
Werrington's Got Talent
Categories: School News
We are sure that our children have many talents, some we are aware of, and some we may not know about! It may be playing an instrument, football skills, singing, gymnastics, reading poetry, magic or something else. As long as this talent can be performed on stage, we would like to see it!
We are going to be holding our own talent show Werrington's Got Talent, on the evening of 25th May (further details to follow).
Auditions will be held during the week of 17th May in classes. Year 6 will audition in Scarborough. The children can perform as a solo or as part of a group. One act per class will be put through to the final.
If your child would like to take part, please complete an application form and return to their class teacher.

School to reopen Update 7
Categories: Announcements School News
Update 7 - School will open on Monday 15th March 2010
I am delighted to report that during the course of today we have been able to supply heating to all areas except one classroom. It is thought that an air lock will have cleared during the next 48hrs resulting in 100% heat supply. I have been advised that the works completed over the last three days have been effective and school will be OPEN on Monday 15th March 2010.
Contractors will be on site over the weekend and Mr Ashworth (Site Officer) and I will be monitoring the heating system. We hope of course that there will be no further complications but plans are in place to allow all children to return to schooling on Monday.
Please do check the school website over the weekend just in case I need to release any information to you.
Thank you for your understanding during this time and I look forward to welcoming everyone back into a warm school on Monday.

School Closed Update 6 Friday12th March
Categories: Announcements School News
Good morning everyone. I have delayed this posting until now in the hope that I would be able to share good news with you regarding the heating repair and progress. I am delighted to report:
1. Overnight the system was filled with water and system venting stabilised.
2. The pressure in the system was maintained which means the repairs and replacement of pipes has been successful.
3. This morning the heating system has been fired up.
4. Several areas are now being worked on to ensure heating is delivered appropriately.
This should be seen as very good progress, however until the system has been fully tested under operational conditions and the engineers have confirmed everything is working I am unable to confirm arrangements for Monday. Please do look out for further updates later today Friday 12th March 2010.
I have been working with Peterborough City Council Children's Services throughout this time and an emergency plan is in place to enable pupils to receive to their schooling if problems associated with the heating system prevail into next week. Please be re-assured that you will be informed over the weekend if this plan is activated. We are of course very hopeful that this will not be required.
Please do check the latest updates.
Thank you very much for your assistance and co-operation during this difficult time. Work has been placed on the class pages and hard copies of work up to and including today Friday 12th March are available form the school office.

Categories: School News
Please note that Mothers and Carers Assembly in KS1 will now take place on Friday 19th March at 9.30am. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused.
School Closed Thursday 11th March - Update 5
Categories: Announcements School News
Please find below the latest update regarding the closure of our school due to heating loss.
The engineers are making progress and currently they are welding the new pipe assembly above ground. Each weld, of which there are five can take up to an hour each to complete. Once the pipe is lowered into the duct a final weld at a bend will need to be achieved.
Once the pipe is sealed and connected the system can be re filled as the whole school central heating system has completely drained. As the pressure builds up in the system every radiator will need to have its cover taken off and bled due to air in the system. The heating will be turned on and checks will be made to ensure there are no other complications. This will take some time to achieve.
I have been advised that given all of the above school will not be able to open tomorrow Friday 12th March. Contractors are prepared to work through the weekend if further problems arise. However if everything goes to plan we are very hopeful that school will be able to re-open on Monday15th March. This will be confirmed during Friday if possible or by the end of the weekend.
Work will continue to be placed on the school website and available from the school office.
Once again I do apologise for the inconvenience this is causing.

Update 4.
Good morning everyone. I am able to report that the offending ruptured pipe has just been lifted out of the duct. See pictures.
Classroom temperatures are running between 10 and 13 degrees celcius. The Teaching and Support Staff are working in areas where localised heat can be supplied without tripping the ring main.
Please be advised that an update regarding tomorrow Friday 12th March will be posted later today.
Work has been set for children to access and I wish to highlight the advice Mrs Armstrong posted about right clicking on the document to save it locally on your computer at home. This should enable you to successfully open the document.
I am working with the experts on site to ensure we recover this regrettable situation as speedily as possible and apologise for the inconvenience this is causing today.

Dear Parents/Carers
As part of the work that the Eco Reps have been doing to make our school greener, we have registered with a website called Generation Green, sponsored by British Gas. For every green action we perform, such as calculating our school's carbon footprint, or appointing light monitors, we earn Green Leaves. Once we've collected a certain number of Leaves we can claim Green Awards, ranging from wormeries and educational kits to new bikes.
You can get involved too and help us get more Leaves. Just complete one of the Energy Savers Reports on the Generation Green website. Go to www.generationgreen.co.uk/leaves and click on 'Complete your free report now'. The energy savers report will help you understand how energy efficient your home is and you can receive up to 150 Leaves. When you have finished, you will be asked which school you would like to donate your Leaves to. Please choose Werrington Primary School.
Thank you for your help.
