Year 6 visited Stibbington last Friday to find out what it was like to be evacuated during the war.
Several galleries of photos have been added.
On arrival at the Nene Valley Railway Station the evacuees were met by the billeting officer. The children found out about the homes where they were to be billeted and about life in the countryside in wartime Britain, including obscured sign posts, pigeon pie, gardens converted to vegetable growing, scrap metal collecting and much more!!
A period-style lunch was enjoyed and afterwards the children played with a range of reproduction wartime toys.
In the classroom, the children learnt about gas mask drill and took part in an air raid, featuring planes, bombing and an air raid shelter.
